Deploy the agent via GPO (Active Directory)

To install the agent on many devices in an Active Directory domain, use a group policy (GPO) that deploys the MSI.

1. Prepare the share​

  1. Get your organization's MSI (see Install the agent).
  2. Place it on a network share readable by the devices (for example \\server\deployment\LongLifeAgent.msi). Devices must have read access to this share.

2. Create the GPO​

  1. Open the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC).
  2. Create a GPO and link it to the organizational unit (OU) containing the target devices.
  3. Edit the GPO: Computer Configuration > Policies > Software Settings > Software installation.
  4. New > Package, select the MSI via its UNC path (\\server\..., not a local path), and choose Assigned.

3. Deployment​

Installation happens at startup of the target devices (per-computer installation). If needed, force a policy update (gpupdate /force) then restart a test device.

4. Verify​

After restart, devices appear in your fleet over time. Check on a few pilot devices before rolling out broadly.

Good to know

GPO deployment is a per-computer installation: it does not depend on the logged-in user and suits shared devices.
